Then you wisely point out how Knowing what’s coming makes the second side sequence much easier to focus on subtleties of one’s own body. So astute !

Thank you so very much for this excellent tutorial on practicing yoga safely through the transition flow. I’m sure you’ve had many comments (as well as noticed yourself) that, when observing yoga classes, too many instructors go through this part of the sun salutation too rapidly for safety and correct form to be executed well.

I found your vocal quality and your queuing to be delightful and I shall ā€œimitateā€ in teaching my classes.

Such a sweet, slow burning flow. Truly felt the intensity. Thank you, Juan! :-) Approximately at 3:26, you lift hips almost level with shoulders. When I first studied yoga in 1978 in Texas, (US), we were taught that pose was called High Alligator or just Alligator and today’s common chataranga was called Low Alligator 🐊 or Level Plank or Low Plank. The typically slanting straight angle plank šŸ“ with shoulders above hips with both shoulders and hips in line with ankles was called Slanted Plank. Names of poses can certainly vary from place to place, lineage to lineage and decade to decade!!

Juan is so very clear and calming as the fire and air of a challenging practice bring energy into my body. Calm in the eye of the storm.

Actually got use of a large ball and two blocks to further enhance todays workout with Juan.

BTW: Watching this today after just experiencing Juan LIVE is a great follow up sequence. Pilates is so cylindrically engaging. Today is Thanksgiving Day in US.. so I’m extra thankful for YYF (your yoga flow).

Building upon Amal’s comment…and I understand, Juan, that you are talking about yoga in a traditional way and not the contemporary way that incorporates various styles developed primarily in the West within our last century or so… but nevertheless I, too, would love to see an entire section set aside on this platform specifically for Iyengar, similar to how we do Pilates and Chanting and Hatha, etc. Yes, Iyengar is contemporary Yoga, and it holds a stellar position in the spreading of yogas popularity in the UK and US, but it is also engineered quiet uniquely today, especially with the laddered wall, the bindings and other elements of equipment.

Also, we all owe a debt of gratitude to Geeta Iyengar (God rest her soul) who, after her father’s death, convinced the United Nations to dedicate a World Yoga Day in June.

With Geeta’s passing, and a serious decline of access to Iyengar studios and trainers, one hopes this fabulous style of yoga will continue to survive and inspire practitioners worldwide.

Awareness might be the best next step for our community.

I’m in need of serious shoulder care and preventative awareness as I’m often in the sand trap or woods (golf analogy) with my shoulder impingements. Left, then right, the sneakily painful plaguing moves around like a tumbleweed.

So, how do I join (here it is last day… better late than never!)

I’m gonna search On-Demand videos. Fingers crossed šŸ¤ž
