Hi Emma H. Thank you for the question. I think both are fine as long as you are aware of what's happening, you are able to choose between the two options, and there is no pain. The more traditional way is the one where you keep the knee in the midline, but sometimes that limits the range of motion. Something I love about yoga is being able to feel the full expression of a pose even if my body is not in "correct alignment," but I am aware of the choices I am making, and I am aware that even though what I am doing might not be fully "correctly aligned," I am still in a safe place, and I don't feel any pain. So in conclusion, I think both are fine depending on what you want to achieve at that specific moment. I hope this makes sense!!
